illustration friday - crunchy

I couldn't resist but to reuse my submission for "skinny" but created an ad to go along with, for the ever tasty and crunchy Cheezy Mice.

illustration friday - entangled

Okay I tried again using watercolour, guess I should have used waterproof ink, doh! Also, the entangled helicopter in SIL's hair.

I was entangled in dogs and relatives all last week. We had five dogs (four black labs and one very ginger golden retriever), nine people and one very annoyed kitty over for thanksgiving. I doodled this quickly on the computer and hope to add another one soon featuring my sister-in-law and a remote controlled helicopter that got entangled in her hair just as she proclaimed it an "outside toy" hee, hee....puppy pictures below.

My brilliant nephew helped out with last week's topic "Music" in all the hoopla we just never got the chance to submit it, so here it is:

illustration friday - unbalanced

A very quick doodle, since my life is so unbalanced right now AND the kitten is trying to kill me!

illustration friday - blur

Things are starting to BLUR a little as the kitten gets up there in age, even she needs a little help from her readers.

I really blurred this doodle with my impatience and didn't wait for the ink dry so it's a little messy.

illustration friday - skinny

I'm not fat, I'm fluffy!
Indeed, kitten is quite SKINNY under all that fluff, she only weighs about six pounds.

For Halloween here's a "10 Little Pumpkins" inspired doodle.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on my abstract paintings. I'm taking a class at the Torpedo Factory and it's really been challenging and fun. I like the acrylic and collage stuff, working on one of the kitty, will post when I finish.

illustration friday - fast

The furballs have not been fasting, I have just not been very FAST in posting new IF submissions I hope to get back into the groove soon. While I still can't find a bunch of my studio stuff, like my light box, we're SLOWLY settling into a beautiful fall here.

I have been keeping busy by exploring the abstract.

illustration friday - welcome

Everyone in our new neighborhood has made us feel very welcome.
While it's not the beach the boys are enjoying their new wateringhole.

illustration friday - magnify

The skylight in my new office magnifies the sound of the raindrops which we haven't heard in awhile, it never rained in southern california. The kitten is liking her new digs. We all survived the trek cross-country.

We're almost all moved in, I still haven't found some of my art supplies, I'm sure they're in a brown box somewhere. Happy to report the dogs are not afraid of thunderstorms which they've never experienced before.

Here are some pics from the trip:

bored, are we there yet?

illustration friday - drifting

We will be drifting through a sea of boxes.
Our house will soon be looking very mono-chromatic, filled with nothing but brown boxes. We have to move again, my husband swears he's not in the witness protection program. While he is still overseas I am stuck here trying to sort through all the boxes left unpacked from our last move. We will be drifting for awhile until we can find a new house that will take two large dogs and a demand-o-cat.

As our saga and laundry unfold, kitten decides she needs a new bed.

animal wednesday - kowabunga!

okay I'm doing another animal wednesday only because I got some funny pictures from the beach. A golden retriever dog group was out giving surf lessons to dogs. It's hard to see but that's a dog on the surf board hanging twenty.

illustration friday - cravings

All I could think of was cupcakes and that made me think of how great it would be being trapped inside a Wayne Thiebaud painting.

animal wednesday - driving miss erin

I don't usually participate in Animal Wednesday but had this funny picture of Ronan from this morning (at least I thought it was funny). I guess he got tired of being a backseat driver. He was also getting into honking the horn (really).

illustration friday - adapt

We have had to adapt to life without the hubby for a while. Hope he doesn't mind crumbs in the bed when he returns (the kitten may not let him back in the bed).

illustration friday - cracked

I was more of a MAD magazine aficionado than Cracked.

illustration friday - contagious

Messin' with the furballs #54
okay (yawn) I didn't have much time this week so (yawn) I doodled this quickie (yawn) of one of the more fun things (yawn) to do with with your people-of-fur, making them yawn. Try it, it's so contagious (yawn) just thinking about it (yawn) is making me yawn.

illustration friday - parade

I love that one of the animal group names for elephants is "parade"
this is a tiny omage to the closing credits of fractured fairytales on the rocky and bullwinkle show.

(oops, I didn't use waterproof ink so it bled)

illustration friday - hierarchy

I'm getting this in under the wire by posting an old totem that I doodled. It doesn't accurately represent our family hierarchy because we all know the kitty would be on top!

Being alone is fine. Being alone together is perfect.

illustration friday - theater

kitten does hamlet

To be or not to be, that is the question;

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer (dogs)
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (dogs),

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles (those darn dogs),

And by opposing, end them (sayonara puppies).

life is theater...if only we "spontaneously" broke out into song everyday

illustration friday - talisman

After last week the kitten is using her favorite talisman—
her lucky kitten's paw
.
(no animals were harmed for this post)

p.s. now I can't get that Harry Belafonte song out of my head, "hey mr. talisman, tali me bananas" (tally man, I know, I know).

illustration friday - poise

I was sitting here yawing and drawing a blank,
when I heard a scuffle and my heart sank,
I peered out into the hall following the noise,
to see the kitten maintaining such grace and poise,
ducking and dodging the puppy's swift swacks,

as he played a rousing game of Whac-A-Cat.

illustration friday - subtract

The kitten would love to subtract some things from her life.

I've been so bad about posting, I'm going to work on subtracting some things too so I can get back to it, right after the ncaa tourney is over (but not the dogs! sorry kitten!)

illustration friday - celebrate

We have a lot to celebrate here. The ever fun juxtaposition of Friday the 13th with Valentine's Day, the kitten definitely has stolen my heart. My brother and my nephew's birthdays. USA's advancement into the finals of the Rugby Sevens tourney and just life in general.

It's been raining a lot here, we finally had a break in the weather and made it to the beach so the labbies could stretch their legs. Apparently being "water" dogs does not include going out in the rain, what babies!

tagged

I was tagged a while ago, at first I thought we were playing "freeze tag" so I just sat here immobile (my usual state), then I realized it was probably "cartoon tag" since I was tagged by Connie Martin at Drawing to an End.

I'm to reveal six things about myself but I'm just not that interesting. I drink way too much coffee, read multiple books at a time, watch excessive amounts of the tee-vee machine, usually all at the same time plus I'm a sucker for animals. So instead here are six things about my kitty:

1. She was cat-napped off the streets of Adams Morgan thirteen years ago by a friend of mine who thought I would give her a good home.

2. She didn't get along at all with my other cat, a big fat, black and white cat who ran the roost. They had pro-cat wrestling bouts on a regular basis and finally settle into a state of détente based on MAD (mutually assured destruction.)

3. While not liking our resident cat, she did put up with our old dog who sadly died followed by our cat a few years later (hhmmm, suspciously convenient) and she was able to accend to her rightful place as queen of the castle.

4. She loves to talk and eat schnackies.

5. She doesn't mind all of our moves and thinks hotels are fun to explore.

6. She's not too thrilled by our new dogs and wishes they and their stinky breath would just go away.

I'm breaking the rules by not tagging anyone right away but I will. Here are the guidelines for playing:

1. Link to the person or persons who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

illustration friday - time

It's going to take some TIME to teach the kitten how to knit those little booties for Penelope's new baby. I would do it myself but I sliced my thumb open on my Hello Kitty scissors, who knew those suckers were so sharp!

Illustration Friday - flawed

No, no, no! Flawed! The word is flawed!

No matter how flawed my idea is for this week's IF I felt I needed to get back on that horse and submit. I submit!

(Our four year old nephew took us to disneyworld in hopes that the roller coasters would jar some creativity loose. I'll let you know if it worked once I find my fillings.)

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

I have had a difficult time getting out of this slump but today is a new day and I hope to be back in the swing of things by next week, the kitten must be heard!

The furballs have already engaged their propaganda machine and have ordered me back to work. I only hope my brain is available, it seems to have run off to Mexico.

Cats rule, dogs drool!
