illustration friday - crooked
It's been a while since I've posted but I want to get back into the swing of things. This week's Illustration Friday word is crooked. All I could think of was Kato's crooked dew claw that gets me every morning when he tries to wake me up. Also a couple of days ago was "Talk Like a Pirate Day" so I combined them for this quick little doodle.

illustration friday - lonely
It's been really lonely around here with my husband still deployed.
Here's my PSA, then I'll keep calm and carry on:
Our military service members represent only 1 percent of our population,
but they shoulder the responsibility of protecting our entire Nation.
Missing birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and so many of the daily
moments we spend with the people we love, they make incredible
sacrifices. But, they do not make them alone, they have families that keep the home fires burning while they are gone.
First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden have called for
Americans to show their support to our military families, who sacrifice
so much in service to our country. Appreciate these service men and
women and their families with a message of support for their
contributions and dedication.
Here's how you can help: www.serve.gov

Illustration Friday - Secret
It's no secret that I haven't posted in quite a while, I slipped down the rabbit hole. When I found myself watching a puppy-cam for a good portion of the afternoon I knew I had to get out of my rut and get back to the doodles that I love. So I assembled my supplies and tried to get back on my blog horse.

illustration friday - yield
Whenever I hear the word yield I always think of Henry V and King Harry's standoff with the french,
"What say you? Will you yield, and this avoid?
Or, guilty in defence, be thus destroy'd?"
"What say you? Will you yield, and this avoid?
Or, guilty in defence, be thus destroy'd?"
We have that standoff everyday in the yard over the Wubba. I think the Wubba is the loser.

A Wrinkle in Time
It is the 50th anniversary of one of my favorite books by Madeleine L'Engle, A Wrinkle in Time. Of course I still have my original copy and re-read it yesterday, still so good. Before I went to sleep I did a quick doodle of Meg and Fortinbras.

that dog don't hunt
While I am the proud owner of two hunting dogs, the last thing they tracked down was the couch. While they are BIRD dogs this morning they decided they would be hounds and went after a big, fat, orange, tabby that was stalking birds in the brush. Blerg! I need to work on their recall because apparently it's nonexistent when there's a tasty cat around.
This little incident reminded me of when my neighbor was bragging about his yellow lab's hunting exploits. Apparently it's a big, big deal if a bird dog can retrieve two birds, who knew. So it was around the holidays when he stopped by to regale this amazing and heroic "double-retrieve" story. While he was telling the story all I could think of was, wow, my dog just stole our entire pumpkin pie off the counter and ate it.

Dogs are always cape-able as well as hat-able, scarf-able and shirt-able.
Here are a some photos of my dog models.

Fudge (one of my crazy fosters)

doodle day
My backyard neighbor's dogs.
One barks incessantly while the other stands quietly by, so I call them Jay and Silent Bob. One day I hope to find out their real names.

Polly want to doodle all the day
It's that time again when the migrating birds blow through town. They are a raucous bunch, like tourist can be.

illustration friday - pup-ularity
Kato is always trying to be the most popular dog in the house. He knows a good cup o'joe is a sure way to a girl's heart.
On another "pup-ular" note. Check out Mônica Carnesi's newly released children's book, "Little Dog Lost: The True Story of a Brave Dog Named Baltic."
It's a heart warming story illustrated with wonderful watercolours. Make sure you read it with a hot cup of cocoa and a big box of tissues.
Congratulations to Mônica on this wonderful achievement!

sad face
Here's a quick sketch of Ronan pleading with his eyes for me to turn the light out and go to sleep. After a couple of ha-rumphs I did.

Illustration Friday - Prepare
Back from a long break. I've gathered up my supplies to "prepare" for a good year of doodling. I hope to get back on track and post regularly. Ended 2011 with a good streak which was only interrupted by the return of my husband. I've packed him off again to his home away from home and am ready to get back to it. I did this quick doodle of my supplies while Skype'ing with him. He likes to tease the dogs, they don't understand technology.
